Mencoder is a video graphics utility. We use it to combine a set of .png files produced from a model run into an .avi movie.

Linux Install

• sudo apt-get update
• sudo apt-get -y install mencoder

Mac Install

Download the binary install package from the download page of the mencoder web site. We have not use mencoder on a Mac, so we hae no experience installing or using it on a Mac.

Windows Install

Download the binary install package from the download page of the mencoder web site. We have not use mencoder on Windows, so we hae no experience installing or using it on Windows.

Here is an online manual chapter on using mencoder. We use mencoder in the makemovies.pl and snapshot_lhs.py scripts.
